TITAN

NEW ADVANCED RESIN INFUSION AND RTM INJECTION TECHNOLOGIES FOR COMPLEX COMPOSITE PARTS IN THE AIR TRANSPORT, NAVAL AND AUTOMOTIVE SECTORS.

The TITAN project aims to develop a new generation of technologies for the smart manufacturing of composite structures through liquid resin infusion (LRI) and resin transfer moulding (RTM) processes, improving their efficiency, quality and repeatability. The project seeks to optimise these processes by combining new materials, advanced processing strategies and sensing, monitoring and vision systems, in order to move towards a more automated, efficient and sustainable manufacturing of composites. TITAN addresses different use cases in the aeronautical, naval and automotive sectors, making it possible to adapt and validate the technologies developed in different industrial environments.

The project's industrial consortium, made up of SOFITEC, TEDCOM, AMURA, INERTIM and GAZECHIM, brings together complementary capabilities along the composite materials value chain. SOFITEC contributes its experience in the manufacture and industrialisation of aeronautical composite structures and in LRI processes, taking part in the definition and validation of the aeronautical use case. TEDCOM develops an aeronautical use case based on RTM technology, while AMURA contributes its experience in infusion processes applied to the naval sector. INERTIM works on an automotive use case, in which the use of LRI or RTM will be assessed depending on the final requirements of the component, and also takes part in the development of sensing and monitoring solutions. GAZECHIM contributes its knowledge of new resin systems, helping to develop and optimise the materials needed for the different processes and applications.

The project also involves the technology centres GAIKER and ITCL, which complement the consortium's industrial capabilities. GAIKER contributes its capabilities in materials, processes and characterisation, supporting the development and validation of the proposed solutions. ITCL, together with INERTIM, works on the development of sensing, monitoring and vision technologies aimed at gathering information during the manufacturing process and at improving control and the detection of deviations in real time.

TITAN stands out for its approach based on the integration of materials, processes and monitoring technologies, seeking to turn conventional LRI and RTM processes into expert, advanced processes able to adapt to real manufacturing conditions. The addition of sensors and vision systems will make it possible to monitor critical variables during processing, while the analysis of the information obtained will make it possible to optimise the manufacturing parameters, detect possible deviations and improve the repeatability and quality of the parts.

The expected impact of TITAN centres on strengthening national industrial capabilities in the smart manufacturing of composite materials, encouraging the adoption of sensing, vision and monitoring technologies in LRI and RTM processes and making it easier to transfer them to different industrial sectors. The project will generate new knowledge and technological solutions applicable to the manufacture of high-performance structures, contributing to more efficient, robust and sustainable production.
